I’m Dr. Christopher Dorsa I’m a sports chiropractor at Pro Performance Chiropractic in Denver, Colorado, where our main focus is on sports injuries, prenatal care, and wellness care.

Why I became a chiropractor

I originally discovered chiropractic when I was in high school for a wrestling injury. I didn’t really have the greatest experience with it, and it didn’t really address my issue so I kind of looked past it.

Fast forward to my undergrad, I was a pre-med student at the University of Miami. By this time, I had undergone two hip surgeries and one hand surgery, so I was pretty sure that I was going to go the orthopedic route. At the same time, we had this chiropractor who came in who worked with a lot of the Miami Dolphins, and so that’s what opened my mind back up to exploring chiropractic care as a profession.

If this level of an athlete is getting this type of care, then there must be something more to it.

I began shadowing chiropractors and physical therapists, and I watched how their patients could walk in with excruciating pain, but walk out a completely changed person. That’s when I knew that I wanted to become a chiropractor.

Education

I attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in San Jose, California which has a major focus on sports medicine. I really wanted to help injured athletes feel better, get better, stay better, and perform better.

In the last part of my degree, I worked in a clinic that focused on prenatal care, which to my surprise, became one of my major passions. We use what’s called the Webster Technique that helps to reduce pain and increase comfort for the mother and optimize the baby’s positioning during pregnancy.

About our clinic

Our office is connected to a CrossFit gym and an adaptive rehab center, which are both really important to the culture of our practice.

As a sports chiropractor, working alongside athletes and people with active, fitness-driven lifestyles helps me better understand my patients’ needs.

I have a background in coaching and personal training, which really plays heavily into the rehab when I’m working with patients who have serious spinal cord injuries and other forms of paralysis.

What we offer/what to expect

because each patient’s needs and goals are so specific, I try to do a really in-depth evaluation so that we can come up with a specific game plan for each patient. it’s been a major goal of mine to provide state-of-the-art services and techniques to ensure optimal recovery.

In every appointment, you can expect some type of manual therapy such as:

  • muscle release techniques
  • scraping
  • kinesio taping.

We may also explore other forms of treatment as well, such as:

  • Class IV Infrared Laser Therapy (to decrease pain and promote healing of inflammation-based injuries).
  • Decompression Therapy (helpful for managing pain and/or discomfort for arthritis and/or disc injuries to the neck and low back).

and I always make sure to involve some type of rehab to ensure that we address the cause of the pain and to make sure that the pain stays away.
